Brilliant stuff, Graley and this took me completely by surprise: "Mr. Tambourine Man.” I’ve long been aware of the song’s allusions to the Pied Piper of Hamelin, but I’ve only recently tuned into its echoes of “House Carpenter.”"
I can safely say that I never would have had you not pointed them out here.
btw, I think I prefer the earlier version of "House Carpenter", but we are truly blessed to have either, far less both.
You know this territory way better than I do, Andy, so I'm glad to hear you liked it. I had never considered the "House Carpenter" angle on "Mr. Tambourine Man" until I was working on this piece. But I convinced myself that there's something there. Fair play to you on the 1961 version. You really can't go wrong either way.
I want to, but I won't, argue this point re territory, but simply because I worry people must view us as having a mutual-admiration society going here. I guess that also means that I'll have to now pull something special out in my next instalment - somewhat delayed, I'm afraid - to force you to send more kind words, whether you think you've already been complimentary enough or not. ;-)
Indeed - you can't go wrong either way. As I said, we are blessed indeed to have both of them.
Brilliant as usual, Graley. And right on about the Another Self Portrait version. Something was definitely going on with him during that period. We should panel this out sometime.

Thanks, Court! Yeah, a panel on Self Portrait era Dylan would be way cool. Let's store that one away....
