Very nice! I’ve been a big Suzanne Vega fan since the 80s and it was fun to hear Chambermaid. She posted a link to it on her Facebook page before the release of the album and asked us fan page subscribers if we knew what singer it was related to. I (and several others of course) knew and mentioned Bob and she seemed happy we were getting the reference. On the physical album it is interesting that she gives the songwriting credit to Bob and calls in an “adaptation” of “I Want You” with additional lyrics and music by herself and longtime collaborator Gerry Leonard and it states that it was used by permission. It refers to those rights coming from Universal rather than Dylan’s company- I assume because of the sale of his rights? In any case I include an old pic of when I got to meet her the first time in 2002. She is very cool with fans, and I seem much younger without the beard!
Fantastic! I didn't know you were such a big Suzanne Vega fan, Wade. I got to know her work a lot better from researching this piece and now admire her tremendously. I'm not seeing this famous photo you tease us with Wade, but you've piqued my interest--do share!
Hmmm. The photo is visible on the comment on my end - not sure why it is not appearing for y’all. I will try it again on this comment. Does it show up here?
Interesting, I don't see it on the website when I look on the computer, but it shows up when I look at the posting on the substack app on my phone. Who knows how this tech stuff works?
Great insights. Good writing. Thanks.
This is really great and a very interesting concept. Great stuff.
Really excellent piece, Graley! Three of my favorites as different shades of muse...well done!
